Bienvenidos - Welcome to Mrs Dolan's Spanish class.  Your children will learn the Spanish language and culture throughout their years here at St. Raymond's.  The National Foreign Language Standards are communication, cultures, connections, comparisons, and community. This will include reading, writing, speaking and listening.  Grade 2  students will learn the Spanish prayer the Ave Maria and from grades 3-8 the Our Father/Padre Nuestro.
 
Pre-k   will have an introduction to Spanish words and numbers, use the Smartboard to match Spanish colors and colors and learn how to greet others and say goodbye in Spanish. Count  1-10 in Spanish. Sing and dance with some songs. Coloring pages will be included. Songs will be taught.

Kindergarten will learn to count 1-15 in Spanish at the beginning of the school year. Then they will learn up to 20. We are also learning new vocabulary words and color pictures. We play Spanish games on the Smart board, Learn days of the week and months of the year with music on the Smart board and sing and dance with some songs.
1rst through 2nd grade learn more Spanish numbers, more Spanish vocabulary, color seasonal and religious pictures, play games in Spanish with the Smart board. 
3rd  grade are starting Chapter 4 Geography of Spain and Mexico. They will receive a project with this chapter on page 52.  When we reach this page I will explain it and we will share ideas in the class.
4th Students are learning about basic foods in Chapter 9.  We will be going to Pancho's restaurant in Island park on May 12. They were given permission slips and a letter so please send in your check by Friday May 3. We are creating bingo cards to play at the restaurant.
5th Students started Chapter 16 Days and Months in Spanish. They will also be going to Panchos restaurant on May 12.  Please send in permission letter and check by May 3.  They are also making Spanish bingo cards for the trip.
6th            The sixth grade have started the Junior High book Avancemos. They will receive workbooks next year.  We will be going to Panchos Restaurant on May 12.  I have given the students the permission letters . Please send in the check by May 3 with the school permission letter.  We are making Spanish Bingo cards to play at the restaurant. 
7th and 8th grade have their Chromebooks and we will use them once a week for duolingo.com in Spanish.  This helps strengthen any grammar and translation we have been learning in our text  (Avancemos 1A)
7th grade are learning  the SER form (to be) and they were also  given an assignment to write a Spanish poem about someone in their family.
The 8th grade are learning the verb Gustar in singular and plural forms. They are using this word gustar (to like) with foods in Spanish.  They were also given an assignment  to write an autobiography in Spanish. We will make it like a guessing game.  They have to scan a baby picture and write Who AM I in Spanish.  Then they will have a present day picture under the baby picture.  This is due May 12.

8th
  Students will learn more conjugation of verbs and how to use them in conversation. They will continue strengthening their Spanish skills on their Chromebooks. 
Grades 6-8 will be starting a program called quizizz.com which they will work with Chromebooks and compete with their class on Spanish quizzes.
