Bienvenidos - Welcome to Mrs Dolan's Spanish class. Your children will learn the Spanish language and culture throughout their years here at St. Raymond's. The National Foreign Language Standards are communication, cultures, connections, comparisons, and community. This will include reading, writing, speaking and listening. Grade 2 students will learn the Spanish prayer the Ave Maria and from grades 3-8 the Our Father/Padre Nuestro.
Pre-k will have an introduction to Spanish words and numbers, use the Smartboard to match Spanish colors and colors and learn how to greet others and say goodbye in Spanish. Count 1-10 in Spanish. Sing and dance with some songs. Coloring pages will be included. Songs will be taught.
Kindergarten will learn to count 1-15 in Spanish at the beginning of the school year. Then they will learn up to 20. We are also learning new vocabulary words and color pictures. We play Spanish games on the Smart board, Learn days of the week and months of the year with music on the Smart board and sing and dance with some songs.
1rst through 2nd grade learn more Spanish numbers, more Spanish vocabulary, color seasonal and religious pictures, play games in Spanish with the Smart board.
3rd grade are now on chapter3 -Exploring Spanish and will learn counting numbers, perform basic mathematical functions in Spanish, relate numbers to geometric shapes and comprehend costs in a store setting.
4th Students are learning about professions and jobs in chapter 8. They have a homework project to choose 4 occupations and write out the questions from the book and tell what the profession or job is. They must include pictures.
5th Students started Chapter 14 Spanish or Hispanic musicians of the 17th century and today. They have a homework to create a Semantic Mapping of one composer or musician. Some students have not presented their mapping which was due last week. This is counted as a grade.
6th Students are still working with Chapter 20 Travel and Transportation. They will learn about expressions to use during travel in Spanish.
7th and 8th grade have their Chromebooks and we will use them once a week for duolingo.com in Spanish. This helps strengthen any grammar and translation we have been learning in our text (Avancemos 1A)
7th grade are learning classroom commands in Spanish and will practice writing questions and answers. They will practice with their partners.
The 8th grade are learning about the irregular verb IR----to go. They have to practice. Yo voy.......I am going, Tu vas......you are going etc
8th Students will learn more conjugation of verbs and how to use them in conversation. They will receive projects during the year and will continue strengthening their Spanish skills on their Chromebooks.
