Bienvenidos -I hope everyone has had a great summer!  Welcome to Mrs Dolan's Spanish class.  Your children will learn the Spanish language and culture throughout their years here at St. Raymond's.  The National Foreign Language Standards are communication, cultures, connections, comparisons, and community. This will include reading, writing, speaking and listening.
 
Pre-k   will have an introduction to Spanish words and numbers, use the Smart board to match Spanish colors  and learn how to greet others and say goodbye in Spanish. Count  1-10 in Spanish. Sing and dance with some songs. Coloring pages will be included. Songs will be taught.

Kindergarten will learn to count 1-15 in Spanish at the beginning of the school year. Then they will learn up to 20. We are also learning new vocabulary words and color pictures. We play Spanish games on the Smart board, Learn days of the week and months of the year with music on the Smart board and sing and dance with some songs.

1rst
through 2nd grade learn more Spanish numbers, more Spanish vocabulary, color seasonal and religious pictures, play games in Spanish with the Smart board. In first grade they learn the Trilogy in Spanish.  In 2nd grade they learn the Ave Maria in Spanish.

3rd
  Students will receive new Spanish books Exploring Spanish and start with courtesies and introductions. They will copy notes when needed on loose leaf paper and keep them in a folder. Some chapters will have fun projects to create.  They will recite the Hail Mary and the Our Father in Spanish. These prayers are recited before each class in grades 2-8.

4th  Students will learn Spanish in their text Exploring Spanish, using the Smart board, create dioramas, projects, learn and review songs and prayers. We will begin Chapter 5 La Casa/ House and identify rooms and different types of lodging. 

5th Students will begin Chapter 11 Body and Health / El Cuerpo y La Salud. They will identify parts of the body and their functions and learn about good healthy habits and good foods to eat. Vocabulary in Spanish

6th Students will continue to learn Spanish in text Exploring Spanish and review weather expressions, days and months, other Spanish expressions. We will start Chapter 18 Leisure and Recreation.


7th and 8th grade will learn Spanish with text and workbook Avancemos. They will continue to practice Spanish through group work and conversations, conjugation of verbs, using the Smartboard, Chrome books and create projects that will be graded. We have started duolingo.com (this program helps with more Spanish practice and it's free. We will read magazine articles in Spanish.
