Hello everyone!
As you all know, as of March 16, 2020, we will not be in the school building for the next two weeks, if not longer. In this time, I'd like to remind everyone to try and remain as active as you possibly can in the next few weeks. The most important thing to remember, aside from regularly washing our hands for 20 seconds everyday and avoiding touching our mouth, eyes and face, is to be active and moving regularly. Being active helps promote a stronger immune system, something that is vital to help fight diseases of any kind, and helps stimulate the brain to make learning more enjoyable. It is good to be active for a minimum of 30 minutes per day, especially from a cardio standpoint (jogging, jump roping, jumping jacks, burpess, high knees, etc. all help promote cardiovascular health). If you have the means to go out and run around in the backyard, or shoot some hoops in the driveway, you can add that to your daily 30 minutes as well. As always, after any physical activity, remember to wash your hands!
For students in 4th-8th grade, I will be leaving health assignments for each class on their google classroom page. Be sure to check in on google classroom for updates!
For Compouter class, especially those students in grades K-5, "www.abcya.com" is a wonderful resource that provides educational games to enhance students reading, writing and math skills. Students who are in 2nd and 3rd grade also have Prodigy accounts, another resource that helps to reinforce math skills. They can access the home page by logging into www.play.prodigygame.com (if any student needs their login information, feel free to email me for the info). Students in 6th-8th will continue to use their computer time to research assignments for their health classes.
If anyone has any questions or concerns during this time, please feel free to reach out to me at anytime. In the meantime, please stay safe and hope to see you all very soon!
Physical Education
Students of all grade levels (Pre-K to 8th Grade) will enjoy a program diverse with different exercises, stretches and activities to help ensure a lifelong love of being physically active. The main focus of any and every activity is to give as much effort as possible, and most importantly, to have fun.
Health
Students in grades 4th-8th will be leraning various health topics throughout the year, such as how to keep a heart healthy, the skeletal system and how mental health is just as important as physical health (just to name a few)! Students in 6th-8th will also be doing research on different health topics and compiling information to help raise awareness and spread the word on the importance of being physcically, mentally, emotinally and spiritually healthy in our daily lives.
Computers
Students in Kindergarten-8th Grade will meet with me once a week for computers. Younger grade students (Kindergarten and 1st) will learn the different parts of the computer, the importance of each component, and how to properly navigate the applications interface, as well as correct use of the internet. Starting with 2nd grade, students will be using the Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing program to help get them assimilated with proper use of the keyboard. With Computer Based Testing (CBT) becoming the norm for students, it is important they start to grasp an idea of how to correclty type on the keyboard to ensure their success down the road!
If you have any questions regarding any of these subject areas, please feel free to email me at anytime at mbrocato5640@srsny.org Thank you!
